- Yassin Choukri, a Fredericton lawyer and the former deputy minister of justice under the Conservative government, has filed a $100 million lawsuit - the first class-action lawsuit in the province's history - against the provincial government.
Choukri argues the Liberal government violated the Taxpayer Protection Act and committed an "abuse of process" by terminating the HST tax cut adopted by former Tory premier Bernard Lord's government.
"This is far more than a political promise. There was a regulation adopted," Choukri said Wednesday. "Government had done more than talk about (it). Not only was there a regulation, it had actively sent out an information brochure on how to do this." | |
